PAPERBACKCOVER-1.jpg

It’s not every day you have to return to your hometown to bind your borderline-poltergeist grandmother to the family property.

Unfortunately, today is that day for Avery Thorn.

All Avery wants is to report the binding to the Witch Council so she can fulfill her obligation, but finding a dead body and the Head of the Council on the brink of death isn’t in her plan.

Especially when she’s pegged as the number one suspect.

Now, it’s down to Avery and her cousins—and her sassy feline familiar—to figure out who tried to murder the Head of the Council. Magically bound to find the culprit, the last thing she needs is the new detective getting under her toes.

Unfortunately for her, she finds herself colliding with the hot cop more than she wants. And since her familiar hates him, it’s not always pleasant.

New magic and a devastating tragedy threaten to derail their investigations—but not quite as much as the person who isn’t happy they’re involved…

Synopsis

Stuck in a dead-end relationship, Erica Bennett finds herself daydreaming of her first holiday romance. She was fifteen, it was exciting, new and full of possibilities…and Jack Lawson was hot as hell. That kind of thing leaves a mark.

So when her friends suggest a girls holiday to Luna Island, it’s exactly what she needs to take her mind off things. What she doesn’t expect is to spot Jack – a much older, hotter version of him – across the hotel lobby.

Their attraction is still there and it isn’t long before sparks fly, but fifteen years is a long time. They aren’t the same people they were back then and besides, it’s only a week, right?

Is it a second chance at something real or will their excess baggage ruin their shot at love after they leave Luna Island?

My Review

Excess Baggage by Laura Barnard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A purely British laugh out loud romantic comedy.

Laura Barnard has graced us with this funny, loveable new summer romance. A perfect read for the beach.

When they were teenagers, Erica and Jack met while on holiday with their parents. Cue instant broken hearts. Skip ahead to years later when they meet again when they turn up at the same holiday resort. After years apart the feelings are still there but there are many obstacles still destined to keep them apart.

I enjoyed reading Excess Baggage. It’s very well written and the story flowed quite well. The characters are really sweet and funny and I think everyone with a close group of friends can relate.

I would definitely recommend reading it.

Raphael by Tillie Cole

They are the Fallen. A brotherhood of murderers whose nature compels them to kill. But guided by their leader, Gabriel, the Fallen have learned to use their urges to rid the world of those it is better off without.

For Raphael, sex and death are intertwined. Where there is one, there must be the other. He is a lust killer, luring his victims with the face of an angel and a body built for sin.

And Raphael lives to sin.

His newest mission takes him into the sadistic underworld of Boston’s secret sex clubs, and puts him face to face with his greatest fantasy made flesh.

Maria is everything he’s ever dreamed of, the kill he’s always longed for. She’s not his target. And he knows he must resist. But the temptation is too strong…

Yet Raphael is not the only one with a mission. Maria is not quite what she seems. And as her secrets and Raphael’s unravel, Maria begins to question everything she thought she knew—about evil, about the place she calls home, and about the beautiful sinner she was sent to destroy.

“Can I get your number?” he asks, catching my elbow to halt me and then letting it go just as fast.
I still for a moment then look back and shake my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
He faintly tilts his head and studies me for a moment. The crystal blue of his eyes bore into me, breaking his stare I look over at Louise and Cami.
“Charlotte,” he implores in his rich whiskey voice. I move my gaze back to him, shaking my head. “How long are you in town for?”
“I’m here to stay,” I reply softly.
A hint of a smile quirks on his lips. “Maybe we will run into each other again then.”
“Perhaps,” I offer. “If we are meant to be friends, I’m sure the stars will align and we will meet again.” I was channeling my inner Louise with that line of rubbish. I have to bite the inside of my lower lip to keep myself from smiling.
“You are very intriguing, Charlotte.”
My name on his lips gives me pause, but I force myself to finish our goodbye. It’s for the best. This is the first day of my exciting new life, the last thing I want or need is to get tangled up in a messy break up. “I’ll catch you later,” I say with finality. Turning to walk away, I try to make a smooth departure but trip on air. One second I’m falling and the next I’m caught around my waist and lifted back up to my feet. I don’t even have a second to process what happened before he speaks.
“Careful, kitten,” he murmurs close to my ear. “You’ll hurt yourself.”
I shiver, goose bumps ripple down my arms. I turn around to look at him and our faces are too close for comfort. I take a step back so that I can breathe. “Thank you, I’m not usually so clumsy.”
“It was my pleasure…What’s your last name?”
I wonder for a moment if I want to give him that information, but then it comes unbidden from my lips. “Rose.”
“Charlotte Rose.” He takes my hand, bending down to kiss my knuckles. “Until we meet again,” he says softly, and then he turns and walks away.

My Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Definitely worth the wait!

Saorsa tells the story of Charlotte, a strong, independent woman and the greatest kind of heroine. After an unhappy few years were her ex husband attempted to run their business into the ground so she wouldn’t be left with much, Charlotte packs up her life and moves to London for a fresh start. She moves in with her best friend and attempts to rebuild her life. Enter Rhys. The handsome guy she meets at the airport and who she continues to bump into in the weeks following her move.
The chemistry between them is undeniable, the only issue is Rhys’ pest of
an ex hook-up who still hovers around him.

I really enjoyed reading this, so much so that I’d had the entire book read in a couple of hours. I had a smile on my face from the very beginning. The only thing I would have liked more is the epilogue to have been a little longer. Although it reads as an ideal ending, I would have loved to see it played out.

The writing was effortless, it flowed and read very easily. I love the books from these two authors individually but them coming together to write Saorsa is a perfect match.

Can’t wait for more from these two!
